Personal Contamination Monitors

Personnel working in radiation controlled areas may from time to time come into contact with radioactive contamination. We offer a range of installed Radiation Protection Instrumentation (RPI) monitors to detect radioactive contamination which are commonly installed at the exit of a Radiation Controlled Area (RCA) or at strategic locations within the RCA. Alpha and beta contamination can be detected with conventional large area gas-flow proportional counters or with the latest BetaFibreTM detection technology. All monitors benefit from modern measurement electronics designed for ease of operation and maintenance. Voice guidance and graphical user interfaces ensure that measurements are effective and results clearly displayed. In-built maintenance tools help to optimise system set-up and minimise equipment downtime. All Rados personnel contamination monitors can be networked using the Central Monitoring System (CeMoSys) utility which centralises all measurement and maintenance data for a number of monitors and can be used for remote diagnostics.

Two Step exit

3

The Rados TwoStepTM exit is a new breed of body monitor to check for beta contamination on personnel leaving the controlled areas of nuclear facilities.

The TwoStepTM exit is the product of many year's development at the cutting edge of technology, based on years of experience in building body monitors. It utilises advances in BetaFibreTM detector technology paired with a radical redesign of monitor geometry.

Customer Benefits

  • Reliable detection of beta contamination.
  • Much improved overall detection probability due to homogeneous detection response over the length of the monitor.
  • Low sensitivity to increased or fluctuating gamma background leads to improved measurement result and low false alarm rates.
  • Detection probability further increased by decreasing detector body distance due to improved detector positioning.
  • Improved EMC stability due to improved detection chain design
  • Optional extras include gamma detectors which improve detection probability for Co-60.
  • High throughput.
  • Software on the basis real-time QNX operating system proven in many generations of Rados monitors.
  • Optional P2 accelerator reduces measurement time by up to 30%.
  • Low cost of operation and maintenance.
  • No gas required for operation and no delay after maintenance due to gas flushing (plug and play maintainability).
  • Lower rate of damage to detectors in day-to-day wear.
  • Rigorous standardisation of parts decreases need for large stock of spares.
  • Maintenance tools proven over the CheckPoint:BodyTM family of monitors.
  • Simple detector design allows in the field repair by customer's technician - resulting in lower maintenance costs.

RTM 860TS

The RTM 860TS has a long pedigree in body contamination monitoring using gas-flow proportional counters. The current monitor is the fifth-generation to exploit the unique and patented split-delta geometry and the two-step geometry for optimal body coverage.

The monitor features:

4
  • Comprehenisve body coverage with alpha/beta detectors.
  • Class-leading homogeneity of detector response.
  • Up to 67 available measurement channels with a range of options including small items box and gamma detectors.
  • Choice of detector grids to optimise for either sensitivity or detector protection.
  • Highly configurable with options including doors, barriers, small items box, card-reader, dosimeter reader interface etc.
  • Designed to meet the latest IEC 61098 for high performance in nuclear environments. The stainless steel housing is easily decontaminated and easy to maintain.
  • A proven measurement concept with automatic background correction which self-corrects if the background changes, automatic adjustment of the measurement time and a range of measurement display units which can be configured to the plant requirements.
  • Quick an easy operation with a robust performance.

Pre-Monitor

5

The RADOS TwoStepTM-PRE (RTM870) covers parts of the body most likely to be contaminated – it is easy to use and has excellent user guidance using a graphic display and voice prompts. The design and the features of the Rados TwoStepTMPRE body monitor make it an effective, secure and safe contamination monitor for personnel. The pre-monitor is typically used around the controlled area for a check on contamination and offers better body coverage than a hand and foot monitor.

The monitor is offered with alpha/beta detectors, gamma detectors or a combined alpha/beta/gamma version.

Hand and Foot Monitor

6

The RTM 110 Hand and Foot Monitor is a rapid and effective method for contamination monitoring of personnel, and includes a removable frisk probe for clothing. The monitor is available with gas-flow proportional counters or the innovative and lightweight BetaFibreTM detection technology.

JFIMS also supply vehicle and pedestrian monitors, tool and clearance montiors and laundry monitors
