Checking clothing for possible radioactive contamination with portable or hand-held radiation protection instrumentation (RPI) can be a time-consuming process and as with all manual processes requiring a multiple measurement, there is the possibility that a section of clothing can be missed. A laundry monitor delivers a rapid turn-round for large volumes of clothing and with its large detector surface measuring the entire surface in a single pass, there is in practice a better probability of finding contamination.
The RTM 750 is a popular and reliable laundry monitor with the benefit of a conveyor to feed clothing through the monitor. The speed of the conveyor automatically adjusts according to the background count-rate to ensure that the throughput rate is maximised without compromising the detection probability. Two detector arrays one above and one below the belt are arranged to ensure there is a high detection efficiency and there are no dead zones The RTM 750 has options for either gas-flow proportional counters or BetaFibreTM detectors. And can be fitted with gamma detectors as well.
The RTM 740 is a flat table laundry monitor with ten detector zones which allow for rapid identification of the location of contamination on an article. The table is sufficiently large to lay out overalls for a single measurement per side.
JFIMS also supply personal contamination monitors, vehicle and pedestrian monitors and laundry monitors
