Tool and Clearance Monitors

The Rados RTM600 series of clearance monitors are highly sensitive monitors developed to measure a broad range of materials for release from a nuclear licensed site. The monitors feature shielded chambers surrounded by large volume plastic scintillation detectives for a rapid, sensitive and robust 4p detection of gamma-emitting nuclides. The monitors have a range of chamber sizes up to 1400l to accommodate tools, bags, drums and crates.

The RTM 661/440 is widely used across the UK nuclear industry for clearing tools and other items out of radiation controlled areas. The RTM 61-440 features a proven measurement methodology based on total gamma counting, and can use isotope fingerprint information to allow for unseen isotopes. The 440l measurement chamber is a generous size for routine operations and features an integrated weigh-cell, and the advanced measurement algorithm can be configured to account for self-sheilding in bulky items and can automatically relate the activity result to the surface area or weight.

The monitor has been designed for ease of operation and a clear display of measurement results. The monitor can be configured with calibrations for a range of items and materials so each measurement can be carried out under the appropriate optimum conditions to ensure an accurate result.

Clearance monitors are available with measurement chambers from 120l to 1800l. The largest monitor, the RTM 644 is designed for the large-scale clearance of materials from radiation controlled areas. In addition to the benefits listed for the RTM 661/440, the RTM 644 displays the distribution of activity inside the chamber.

RTM 690

The RTM 690 is designed to monitor small or long items for radioactive contamination with a high throughput. The items are carried on a conveyor belt through a shielded measurement tunnel. During standard operation, the speed of the belt is automatically controlled to optimise the speed as a function of the background radiation and alarm thresholds. In the event of contamination being detected, the measurement is stopped and the belt is reversed, ensuring that the contaminated item is not carried through to the clean side.

CeMoSys

All Rados clearance monitors can be networked using the Central Monitoring System (CeMoSys) utility which centralises all measurement and maintenance data for a number of monitors and can be used for remote diagnostics.

JFIMS also supply personal contamination monitors, vehicle and pedestrian monitors and laundry monitors

RADOS TOM

11

TOM is a further supplement to the RADOS Clearance Monitors based on our tried and tested measurement philosophy. It is the first clearance monitor equipped with RADOS fibre detector technology, as proven for many years in RADOS body monitors, such as HandFoot-Fibre™ and TwoStep™-Exit.
